All you have as a creator is your idea.
We are wired to be excited when we have the idea (or ideas).
In my experience, when a good idea takes hold, all I want to do is run around and share it with as many people as possible.
It’s unique, it’ll hopefully thrill the recipient, it’s a test to prove how good the idea is.
When you get good at ideas, people want them. They’ll ask for them. You’ll want to provide them.
STOP.
If it’s business, get them to lay down in black and white, with dates and signatures, that:
- You’re an ideas person.
- Your ideas cost $X.
- They’re your ideas.
In my naive joy, (and long career as an ideas person) I have made this mistake countless times, and often only realize it when it’s too late.
That was difficult to write.
I just hope it resonates with you.
