Is it too trite to say “In the end, everything comes down to story?”
The longer I create, the more I think it might just be this simple.
Doesn’t a really successful brand ultimately rely on the story it tells and the relationship it forms through story?
How many of us have fallen asleep in the middle of a movie that’s an outrageously crafted visual effects behemoth, because we’re bored or we cannot track or relate to the story?
Isn’t our favorite pizza place the one that has the best story behind it?
Don’t we buy fancy clothes based on how we relate to the designer’s story?
Don’t we boycott products based on a story we don’t agree with that unfolds in the media?
Don’t the world’s most beloved examples of visual art tell a story?
Aren’t our favorite songs the song’s with stories we relate to, or we attach our own story to?
I could go on, and I may be off the mark here. But the idea makes for a good story…
