CITY KITTY

Medium:

Dimensions: 3"X3"X8"

About the art:

Featured in COFFEERIGHT CREATOR GALLERY's second show: I'M NY 'Portraits'.

Being a character-based street artist is all about envisioning the world in which your creation lives. Does City Kitty live in our reality or a world of his own? Throughout my work, I use everyday art materials such as markers, acrylic, pencils and spray paint to create the world that City Kitty exists in. The All Shook Up series explores this notion in a different way, by utilizing the actual spent spray paint cans to physically embody City Kitty. The Kitties scratch, hiss, and meow their way into existence one can at a time.

About the artist:

City Kitty is a prolific New York-based street artist known for his hand-drawn, cat-themed art that appears on buildings and posters throughout the city.

His signature three-eyed cat, inspired by neighborhood stray kittens, is a symbol of the urban landscape, with the artist creating work that often reflects his experiences living in the city's diverse neighborhoods.

He adopted the name City Kitty from his childhood experience of living with five cats and his attempts to adopt neighborhood strays.

The "City Kitty" character was created to honor the stray, "gangster kittens" of New York City, reflecting their scrappy and independent nature.

The addition of a third eye to his cat characters was a way to fit a 2-panel comic into a single image and give his work a trippy look.

City Kitty's artwork is characterized by its hand-drawn, fluid style. He describes his approach to street art as a "fluid response," preferring to react to his surroundings and create in the moment.

The artist is drawn to street art's ability to connect with the general public, rather than a gallery-going audience.

While his work originates in New York City, City Kitty's art has traveled to various international cities.
